Ireland plans to lift its ban on entry from the United Kingdom on Jan. 6. Instead, a series of strict regulations are planned to curb the spread of the new Corona mutation, Foreign Minister Simon Coveney tells the Irish Independent. Airline passengers who are not entering the country for urgent business reasons will have to show a negative corona test, for example. They will also have to stay in the country as far as possible after their arrival. Ireland halted air and ferry passenger traffic before Christmas after a more contagious variant of the coronavirus emerged in the UK.
The Philippines is taking a different approach: As of Sunday, they will no longer allow foreign travelers coming from the United States into the country. The reason is a new, more contagious variant of the coronavirus that has now also appeared in Florida. The entry ban is valid until January 15, according to a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte. It affects foreigners who were in the U.S. within 14 days before their planned entry into the island nation. Filipinos coming from the U.S. are allowed to return home, but must quarantine themselves in a government facility for 14 days after arrival.
